Sage Sankara says the transparent Truth of the Self, which is hidden by the illusion, is to be attained through the instructions of a knower of Brahman, (Gnani).
~ Then why you are sticking a Guru who is not a Gnani.

A Gnani can point at the sky, but the seeing of the star is the seeker's own work.
A Gnani guides all the seekers to the very end of their thinking; otherwise, they stop halfway and wrongly have an 'I know' attitude. This “I know” attitude is most dangerous and will not allow the seeker to reach the ultimate end of understanding.
When a man meets with doubt or confusion on his quest, he then needs guidance.
A Gnani clears all cobwebs of doubts and confusion without posing as a guru.
A Gnani helps the seeker to know in which direction to turn.
A Gnani points out the pitfalls and when a seeker has made an error and he makes him aware of the error and points it out to him.
There is no such thing as personal salvation. Such an idea of salvation is imagination based on the dualistic perspective.
Those who talk of finding moksha from religious rituals and yogic practices harbor the false notion that the individual ego is real and who are deceiving themselves.
The Gnani will guide the seeker, but the seeker must do his homework constantly over the guidance and master them by his own use of reason.

Remember:~

If someone has acquired Self-knowledge and shares his acquired knowledge with others, they cannot say that there is nothing for them to do.

Everyone has to discover afresh for himself by verifying all the facts. Each one has to grasp assimilate and realize it until he gets a firm conviction of the ultimate truth or Brahman.
Select Works of Sankara" also his commentary on Brihad: ~ “Though I wear these robes of a Sanyasin, it is only for the sake of bread."
So, it proves those who are wearing religious robes it is only for the sake of bread."
A person who realized the ultimate truth or Brahman will throw off his religious robe and his religious identity and becomes Avadhuta and live as he wishes.
Some branded dollar-centric Gurus, teachers, and preachers dominate humanity, and they are not right people ~ not right in the sense they don't accept other than ‘what they think as the ultimate truth. They simply go on fabricating beautiful words and theories and creating an illusion in the minds of people that perhaps they are authentic seers, enlightened people.
People emotionally get stuck with their physical Gurus. This is a great mistake. If you are seeking truth then you neither require the grace of the physical Guru nor his love, nor his blessings.
Remember this, you and your physical Guru and the world in which you exist is the dualistic illusion. If you stick to anything of the dualistic illusion you will never be able to transcend the dualistic illusion because you will never be able to come out of the grip of ignorance.
Sage Sankara:~ On Gnani:~ "The knower of Brahman wears no signs. Gives up the insignia of a monk's life…his signs are not manifest, nor his behavior."
When the knower of Brahman (Gnani) wears no signs it means he does not identify himself as Guru or yogi or teacher or Swami.

~ Then why you are sticking a Guru who is not a Gnani.
Ashtavakra Samhita: ~ "The man of knowledge (Gnani), though living like an ordinary man, is contrary to him and only those like him understand his state.
A Gnani is neither anyone’s gurus nor anyone’s disciple. He respects all the sage of the past, and he highlights good points in their teaching he also highlights the obstacles, which block the realization of the ultimate truth or Brahman or God in truth. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar

Sanyasa is a great hindrance in the path of wisdom.+


Sage Sankara: ~ "Though I wear these robes of a Sanyasin, it is only for the sake of bread." (Select Works of Sage Sankara" also his commentary on Brihad)
Thus, the above passage proves that all those who were the sanyasin robes are wearing them for the sake of bread belong to the religion; they are nothing to do with the Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.
There is no need to criticize and condemn the Gurus, Yogis, and swamis because they are needed for the welfare of the ignorant masses in the dualistic world.
Sage Sankara in Viveka Chudamani (2), states that the Knower of the Atman (i.e., a Gnani) "bears no outward mark of a holy man" (Stanza 539).
It means the Gurus, Swamis, and Yogis who identify themselves as holy people are not Gnanis.
Those who are seeking truth need not follow any Guru or any teaching.
The one who thinks of himself as a Guru and the one who thinks of himself as a chela (disciple) will not be able to acquire Self-Knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana because both of them accepted themselves as the body. And all their understanding, practices, and knowledge are based on the false self (ego or you). Therefore, the Guru –Shisya concept is a great obstacle in the pursuit of truth.
A Gnani never accepts himself as a Guru nor accepted anyone as his disciple because he was fully aware that Guru and disciple and the world are merely an illusion created out of the Soul, the Self.

Remember:~

Renouncing the worldly life and accepting sanyasa or monkhood means the incapacity to think deeper, impotency to inquire and reason. 

There is no need to walk in the mountains in search of the truth.

There is no need to meet any Gurus.
There is no need to renounce family life.
There is no need to study the scriptures.
There is no need for glorifying the Gurus.
There is no need to spend the fortune to please the Gurus.
Going to the mountains, searching for a Guru, renouncing the family life, studying the scriptures, and glorifying the personal Gods and Gurus are the greatest obstacle on the path of wisdom.
One need not be a monk, a sanyasi, or a swami to acquire Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.
Religious rituals and scriptural mastery, are not a qualification to acquire Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.
Monkhood and sanyasa are the greatest obstacles in truth-realization, which is beyond form, time, and space.
Remember:~

People speak of getting rid of the conditioning or samskara, but they, themselves are unaware of the fact that the universe in which they exist is the product of the inborn samskara or conditioning. Ignorance is the cause of the inborn samskara or conditioning which is present as ‘I’.

The real Moksha or freedom is to realize the fact that ‘I’ consciousness is mere physical awareness. Physical awareness is not ‘Self’-awareness. Self–awareness is when the   Soul, the Self, which is present in the form of consciousness remains aware of its own non-dual true nature. 

Remember:~

A true Gnani can never renounce anything. It is impossible. He has only renounced ignorance. For Gnani the world is an illusion. Viewed from the absolute there's neither birth nor life nor death, neither appearance nor disappearance, neither production nor destruction, neither bondage nor liberation. None seeks for freedom nor is there any who is liberated - this is the highest truth.

The seeker should not go to the extremity of renouncing worldly life by accepting the sanyasa or monkhood. The seeker should not neglect his family and worldly duties. Sanyasa is a religious or yogic fable.

By becoming sanyasi, one will not get Mukthi but he will remain in the prison of the dualistic illusion or Maya.

Sanyasa is a great hindrance in the path of wisdom.
Sanyasa is not the means to Self- realization. He must live and work in the practical world like any other householder. He must begin an inquiry into truth through reason.

Renouncing the worldly life and accepting sanyasa or monk-hood means incapacity to think deeper, impotency to inquire and reason.

In these three states, everything is subject to change, yet the three states are pervaded by the Soul is the Self, which is present in the form of consciousness.

The Soul, the Self is present in the form of consciousness.

Seeker of truth has to practice mental renunciation of the three states and be strong in his conviction that, the Soul is the  Self. The seeker has to realize whatever is perceived within the waking experience is on the base of ‘I’ as the Self is merely an illusion.

The three states are of the nature of change. There is no permanence in them. However, that which sustains the three states is never changing. It is always the same. That is the Soul, the Self. 

From the Soul, the Self, everything rests. It is as a movie projected on a screen. The movie changes, but the screen is constant. Similarly, the phenomenal waking or the dream projected on the Soul, the Self is present in the form of consciousness. In deep sleep, the Soul remains without any projection. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar

There is a clear- cut idea of what suppose to be God in the Bible,Vedas, Upanishad, and Bhagavad Gita.+

You will find your own way when you realize the fact that the ‘Self’ is not you but the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness. Consciousness is God in truth.

Bhagavad Gita: ~ Brahmano hi pratisthaham ~ Brahman (God in truth) is considered the all-pervading consciousness, which is the basis of all the animate and inanimate entities and material. (14.27).

When Bhagavad Gita says, God is considered the all-pervading consciousness which is the basis of all the animate and inanimate entities and material then nothing has to be accepted as God other than consciousness.

Lord Krishna says Ch ~V: ~ “Those who know the Self in truth.". The last two words (tattvataha) are usually ignored by pundits, but they make all the difference between the ordinary concept of God and the truth about God.

The dualistic worship of "God” is only for the ignorant populace. The God in truth is only Atman, the ‘Self’. In reality, there is no duality, no differentiation. Only Atman exists.

Bhagavad Gita Chapter: - All those whose intelligence has been stolen by material desires, they worship many Gods. (7- Verse -20)

Thus, by sticking up to the Gods, which are not God in truth, you are sticking up to the illusion. Sticking up to illusion means sticking up to ignorance. sticking up to ignorance means you are not qualified to acquire Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.

Unless you find it on your own, you will not be able to realize the truth, which is hidden by the illusory form, time, and space. Without a perfect understanding of ‘what is what’, it will take you nowhere.

Religious God is not God in truth. You must know what God suppose to be in truth according to your own scriptures.

Kena Upanishad (6) Chapter I: ~ “That which cannot be apprehended by the mind, but by which, they say, the mind is apprehended-That alone know as Brahman, and not that which people here worship.

Kena Upanishad (7) Chapter I:~ That which cannot be perceived by the eye, but by which the eye is perceived-That alone know as Brahman and not that which people here worship.

Kena Upanishad (8) Chapter I:~ That which cannot be heard by the ear, but by which the hearing is perceived-That alone know as Brahman and not that which people here worship

Kena Upanishad (9)- Chapter I:~ That which cannot be smelt by the breath, but by which the breath smells an object-That alone know as Brahman, and not that which people here worship.

Bible says: ~ “God is a Spirit, and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:24)

The Spirit is the root element of the universe. The Spirit is present in the form of the Soul, the Self. The Soul is present in the form of consciousness. From the Spirit, the universe comes into existence. In the Spirit, the universe resides. And into the Spirit, the universe is dissolved. The Spirit is the parent of all that is there

Meher Baba said: ~ God is your innermost Self. Do not search for God outside of you. Let these words be inscribed in your heart. Nothing is real but God. Nothing Matters but love for God. God is everywhere and does everything. God is beyond us and is everything. God alone is and all else is an illusion.

Chandogya Upanishad Chapter: ~“ekam evaditiyam”- God is only one without a second. (6- Section- 2- Verse- 1)

Swethaswethara Upanishad:~ “Na casya kasuj janita na cadhipah”, which means of him of Almighty God, there are no parents they have got no lord. Almighty God has no true father, he has no true mother, he has no true superior. (Chapter-6- Verse -9)

Swethaswethara Upanishad: ~ “Na Tasya Pratima Asti”- of that God there is no Pratima, there is no likeness, there is no image, there is no picture, there is no photograph, there is no sculpture, there is no statue. (Chapter -4- Verse- 19)

Swethaswethara Upanishad:~ “No one can see the Almighty God. (Chapter -4, Verse -20)

Even Brihadaranyaka Upanishad: ~ Brahman (God in truth) is the form of the Athma, and it is indeed Athma itself.

There is a clear-cut idea of God in the Vedas, Upanishad, and Bhagavad Gita. And also there is a clear-cut idea of what not to worship as God in place of real God.

That is why Sage Sankara said:~ Talk as much philosophy as you like, worship as many gods as you please, observe ceremonies, and sing devotional hymns, but liberation will never come, even after a hundred aeons, without realizing the Oneness.

Vedas and Upanishad confirm the Soul, the Self, is present in the form of the Spirit or consciousness.

Yajurveda – chapter- 32:~ God is Supreme Spirit.

Rig Veda: ~ 'Prajnanam Brahma'- Consciousness is the ultimate reality or Brahman or God in truth.

Do not accept any other God other than the Soul. The Soul is God in truth, Nothing is real but the Soul, which is present in the form of consciousness. Nothing matters but realizing God in truth. God in truth is everywhere and in everything. Let these words be inscribed in your subconscious.
God in truth is hidden by the illusory universe. God in truth alone is real and eternal and all else is an illusion.

Brahman is merely a word to indicate the ultimate truth or God in truth. The ultimate truth itself is God in truth.

Rig Veda: ~ The Atman (Soul or Spirit) is the cause; Atman is the support of all that exists in this universe. May ye never turn away from the Atman, the Self. May ye never accept another God in place of the Atman nor worship other than the Atman?" (10:48, 5)

Sage Sankara’s Supreme Brahman is impersonal, Nirguna (without Gunas or attributes), Nirakara (formless), Nirvisesha (without special characteristics), immutable, eternal, and Akarta (non-agent). It is above all needs and desires. It is always the Witnessing Subject. It can never become an object as It is beyond the reach of the senses. Brahman is non-dual, one without a second. It has no other besides it. It is destitute of difference, either external or internal. Brahman cannot be described because description implies a distinction. Brahman cannot be distinguished from any other than It. In Brahman, there is not distinction between substance and attribute. Sat-Chit-Ananda constitutes the very essence or Svarupa of Brahman and not just Its attributes. The Nirguna Brahman of Sage Sankara is impersonal.

Only through deeper self-search do beginners and intermediates gradually become aware of ‘what is what’. Only after they have realized the fact that the ‘Self’ is not ‘I’ but the ‘Self’ is the Soul, which is present in the form of the consciousness, are they ready for the inner journey towards the reality, which is beyond the form, time, and space.

Upanishad:~ They alone in this world are endowed with the highest wisdom who are firm in their conviction of the sameness and birthlessness of Atman. The ordinary man does not understand their way. (Chapter IV — Alatasanti Prakarana 95-P-188 in Upanishads by Nikilanada)

The Spirit is a universal God. All religious propagated God based on blind belief is not God in truth.+

The Soul, the Self is not Christian, Jewish, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist”, because it is ever formless, timeless, and spaceless existence.

In religion, there is no freedom to believe other than what it preaches. Religious people consider the mythological stories as truth and not believing in mythological Gods is irreligious. The mythological God can exist within the domain of the duality. From the Advaitic perspective, duality is merely an illusion. Thus, whatever belongs to the illusion is bound to be a falsehood.

The religion declares one must believe that there is no other God but God propagated by the particular belief system.

The seeker has to deny the existence of such God based on the belief because first, one must realize what God really is.

People find some of the religious doctrines very illuminating. People who renounce the world and become a monk or sanyasi who leaves it all behind to find the truth of their true existence.

People think the events that happened in the mythological stories really happened the way they are described and hallucinate about these stories.

Swami Vivekananda: ~The masses in India cry to sixty million Gods and still die like dogs. Where are these gods?

Swami Vivekananda: ~ If religion and life depend upon books or upon the existence of any prophet whatsoever, then perish all religion and books! Religion is in us. No books or teachers can do more than help us to find it, and even without them, we can get all truth within. You have gratitude for books and teachers without bondage to them and worship your Guru as God, but do not obey him blindly; love him all you will, but think for yourself. No blind belief can save you, work out your own salvation. Have only one idea of God - that He is an eternal help.

Brihadaranyaka Upanishad: ~ The Self is indeed Brahman (God), but through ignorance, people identify it with intellect, mind, senses, passions, and the elements of earth, water, air, space, and fire. This is why the ‘Self’ is said to consist of this and that and appears to be everything.

Rig-Veda 1-164-46 and Y.V 32-1 clearly mention that God is “One”.

By following back all of the relative appearances in the world, we eventually return to that from which it is all manifest – the non-dual reality (The Soul, the Self is not Christian, Jewish, Islamic, Hindu, Buddhist”, because it is ever formless, timeless, and spaceless existence.

Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is not the knowledge of religion and religious Gods.+

Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana is not the knowledge of religion and religious Gods. Religion and religious Gods are nothing to do with Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana.

Self-knowledge or Brahma Gnana or Atma Gnana knowledge of the Spirit, the real God, hidden by the ‘I’, which is ignorance.

Isa Upanishads indicates that: ~ “ By worshipping Gods and Goddesses and going to the world of Gods after death is of no use. The time one spends in ritualistic practices is wasted; one can spend the same time moving forward toward Self-knowledge, which is the main goal. One cannot reach the non-dual destination by glorifying God and Goddesses and by doing that, one goes deeper and deeper into darkness. It surely indicates the fact that the seeker of truth has to drop the worshiping God and Goddess to get Self-knowledge.

Ish Upanishad:~ "Those people who have neglected the attainment of Self-knowledge and have thus committed suicide.

Those people who have neglected the attainment of Self-knowledge and have thus committed suicide, as it were, are doomed to enter those worlds after death.

This is a condemnation of people who do not try to attain Self-knowledge. They are, in a real sense, committing suicide, for what can be worse than being a slave to sense enjoyment, completely oblivious of the real purpose of life, which is to be one’s, own master?

Ish Upanishads:-

Vidya and Avidya both are hindrances to Self-knowledge, but Vidya is even worse than Avidya. The word Vidya is used here in a special sense; here it means worshipping Gods and Goddesses. By worshipping Gods and Goddesses you will go after death to the world of Gods and Goddesses. But will that help you? The time you spent there is wasted because if you were not there you could have spent that time moving forward towards Self-knowledge, which is your goal. In the world of Gods and Goddesses, you cannot do that, and thus you go deeper and deeper into darkness.

Avidya is Karma and therefore a hindrance. You perform Avidya - i.e., you perform Agnihotra and other sacrifices. This is a roundabout way of purifying the mind, and it is also groping in the dark. But it may not have as heavy a toll on your time and energy as the other.

Ishopanishad: ~ “They are steeped in ignorance and sunk into the greatest depth of misery who worships the matter, instead of the All-Pervading God and those who worship things born of matter like trees, animals, man, etc. are sunk deeper in misery."

The seeker must do his homework, and verify the validity of all the claims, rather than blindly believe, what others expound as knowledge, till; the un-contradicted truth is obtained.

The seeker must have the courage of Bhagavan Buddha to accept the truth and reject the untruth. Since Bhagavan Buddha rejected religion, the idea of God, and scriptures, therefore, it is evident that he has gone through every aspect and verified and found them to be inadequate and useless for the pursuit of truth.

That is why Bhagavan Buddha said: ~ “Believe nothing because a wise man said it, Believe nothing because it is generally held. Believe nothing because it is written. Believe nothing because it is said to be divine. Believe nothing because someone else said it. But believe only what you, yourself judge to be true.

Bhagavan Buddha: - There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth: not going all the way... and not starting.

In spirituality, the ultimate truth or Brahman is God in truth.

The word Brahman means ultimate truth or reality which cannot be indicated by any word. The Brahman can be expressed through silence because it is beyond the experience of form, time, and space. Therefore, the word Brahman clearly stands for the essence of the three states, which is consciousness only. The final stage pursuit of truth is to know that the ‘Self’ is consciousness.

The nature of the Soul is the fullness of consciousness without the division of form, time, and space. The fullness of consciousness is emptiness.

Religious Gods are religious truths. In spirituality, the ultimate truth or Brahman is God in truth.

The religious truth is the dualistic truth. Spiritual truth is the universal truth.

Religious Gods are based on the belief and without the belief they cease to exist.

Spirit is the Spiritual God and Spirit is universal. Spirit is the cause of the universe and it, itself is causeless.

Realization of the ultimate truth or Brahman itself is God-realization. God-realization itself is real worship. : ~ Santthosh Kumaar

Consciously becoming aware of the Soul in the midst of diversity (waking) leads to Self- awareness or Brahmic awareness.+

 

Whatever you see in this world is not real. When you realize the ‘Self’ is not 'you', but the ‘Self is the Soul, then you realize the world in which you exist is merely an illusion created out of the Soul is present in the form of consciousness.

The seeker has to find for himself the truth of his true existence and to come to a fuller and deeper understanding and realization of the truth, which is hidden by the illusory form, time, and space.

The purpose quest for truth is to first find out what is the untruth to realize the truth and discard the untruth.

Do not try to get rid of the ego you will never succeed in getting rid of the ego. Think in a different direction. The ego exists only in the domain of form, time, and space.

The form, time, and space exist only when the mind exists.

The mind exists only when the universe exists.

The universe appears only when the waking appears.

The waking appears only when the ‘I’ appears.

Remember:~

The ‘I’ disappears in deep sleep.

There is no form, time, and space when ‘I’ disappears.

There is no mind when ‘I’ disappears.

There is the universe when the ‘I’ disappears.

There is no waking when the ‘I’ disappears.

Remember:~

‘I’ appears means the duality appears.

The duality appears means there is a division of form, time, and space.

If there is division in the form of time and space means there is diversity in the unity.

Remember ~

When ‘I’ disappears there is nonduality.

Nonduality is the fullness of the consciousness without the division of form, time, and space.

The fullness of consciousness means unity in diversity.

Unity in diversity in consciousness is Advaita.
